OOBIAN@Portugal Tecnológico

Portugal Tecnológico ("Technological Portugal"), the nation's larget technology and innovation show, will be held from 22nd and 26th September at the FIL exhibition center, Lisbon.
We believe that 2010 edition will be a success due to its innovation nature, provided by the innovative solutions that will be presented by several companies, particularly by MAISIS, presenting his product OOBIAN.

World Search Microsoft Project

World Search Microsoft is an I&D project for future research technologies, general information and business-relevant semantics, with proper knowledge of Portuguese language, culture and market. This project is undertaken by a consortium of several companies, including MAISIS, in collaboration with several corporate R&D centers and academic institutions.
The main goal of this project is to place Portugal, in 2015, among the top 3 reference EU countries in Internet domain and corporate search technologies, increasing and making search domain a key component of portuguese strategy for Communication and Information Technologies.

The 3.0 Future

The main lever for 3.0 Era is the semantic technology, the ability to represent a specific context or knowledge in a digital way, interpretable and accessible by people and machines.

The 3.0 Era allows, in this rich semantic environment (WEB 3.0), the rich integration of data, services and applications. People and applications will be connected by a real-time knowledge "cloud", using automated and semi-automated techniques.

Gartner and Forrester analysts characterize ontologies as being the main knowledge modeling activity, having a deep impact in the majority of business applications and knowledge integration in the coming years. The techniques and tools associated with ontologies provide enough semantic, not only to support business processes management, but also to integrate dynamic applications in the company.

Based on this trend, we believe that in the medium and long term, the market will tend to adopt 3rd generation systems (WEB 3.0)

MATURE PROJECT

After our participation in the 2nd Associate Partner Meeting, we can say that it was critical to discuss involvement opportunities as an associated partner in the third year of the project.
We found a lot of potential in this collaboration and in the application of its results, mainly in the field of People Tagging and Adaptive Process Management.

Silverlight Enterprise Mashups: Case study applied to Knowledge Management in Microsoft Techdays 2010

On the 21st April, MAISIS presented a case study using its Knowledge Management application OOBIAN, in Microsoft Techdays event. This presentation showed the integration between several technologies and frameworks, like as PRISM, Ribbon, WCF, BingMaps, Kit3D, as a way to explain Mashups concepts.

See our demo and trial in www.oobian.com.

What composes a Knowledge Management consulting process? How long does it take to implement? What are the company requirements to hire these services?

A Knowledge Management consulting process begins with data identification, regarding the implementation area. We strongly recomend to start "fishing" in only a few areas, since the beginning of a Knowledge Management implementation shoud be seen as a pilot project in order to be extended later on to the remaining organization areas.

Furthermore, the identification of organizational structure and repositories where information resides is very important to analyze all the active information management processes in the organization - the company document management or ECM systems, information categorization's procedures, publishing methodologies, etc.

We sutdy how to adopt and build an ontology - insert a trained "brain" focused on company activity, in which OOBIAN will rely on to interpret and to relate information. After that, we will install the connectors to other enterprise systems and semantic agents that will do the hard work in maintaining and growing the system intelligence.

Finally comes the "go live" period. The success of the pilot will determine whether to apply this process to all the company. The right choice of key users that are an active part in the project, is one of the critical success factors. This choice will make the tool parameterization easier, shortening the implementation time. These actors will also be the evengelists for the solution in all the company.

As each case is unique, is hard to establish a timeline for a pilot development. However, the implementation process will never take less than 4 months until the achievement of some initial results. In the "educational phase", the system is able to interpret and relate any new
information, having now learning and interaction mechanisms that will allow the user itself to control its behaviour.

OOBIAN – The new knowledge management (KM) software

15 years ago, the software industry reacted to companies’ concern in knowledge management, providing document management solutions that allowed scanning, cataloging and document indexing. In the meantime, new complementary solutions have emerged: solutions to assist document flow and adjacent business processes, advanced search solutions and integration with existing IT systems such as ERP, CRM, Office tools and email.

In the last 5 years, the ECM systems emergence focused on information sharing was the big step. Progress has been made in terms of search engines and small agents to treat all kind of documents. The biggest evolution was “collaboration 2.0”, allowing the automatic content publication on the Web, Blogs, Wikis, etc. OOBIAN was built for the new knowledge management generation tools often referred as semantic web. This denomination came from the need to relate intelligently the scattered and different format data.

There is a real need to relate an accounting document with a Word document, a PDF, an image, an email…None of the previous tools were able to relate and aggregate data. In addition, it was urgent to think about a way to extract information more accurately, based on contextual interpretation, beyond metadata. As an example, if the word I’m looking for is jaguar, the previous systems weren’t able to distinguish between “jaguar-animal”, “jaguar-car” or any other related issue. However, if I program the system in order to interpret semantically a text, based on a wildlife ontology, all the system search results will be related only to this animal.

US Networking is a blast!

I want to thank David Coleman for his kindness and the review he made in his blog http://www.collaborate.com/?q=blog/2009/11/20/nomee-aggregate-me about OOBIAN. David is a well known consultant in the collborative area. He has a great book named Collaborative 2.0! Thanks David.

Here is a "cut" from the blog where OOBIAN is a reference:

"...the other thing that nomee does not yet do is allow you to connect to enterprise content (documents, spreadsheets, etc.). However, I did see a cool tool at KM World called Oobian (out of Portugal). Their plan is to have a whole series of tools called Oobian Insight (which is the one I saw), Share (more collaborative), Logic (allows this semantic system to be proactive) and Connect (allows you to connect to your value network). Oobian Insight is a data visualization tool added on as an intelligent layer to help not only with navigation, but also graphically shows the relationships of various people in the enterprise to that content.
Here is a cool YouTube video that gives an example of what Oobian can do.
Maisis, the company that develops Oobian would probably be a good partner for nomee, and combined would provide a much more compelling and intelligent aggregation for social networks and the enterprise."
